My weekend was not uneventful, but it was also not super adventurous. Thankfully, it could be because I had 2 companions who were willing to skip over the border to Mexico with me, a 1.5 hr drive south of Tucson.
I had an acquaintance and his brother who helped me to feel safe as we walked down the streets accosted by merchants. I was looking for some trinkets to buy as souvenirs for co-workers.
Too bad I bought some from the first shop I stopped at for the reason that I didn't want to keep looking and haggling. But if I could do it again, I would have bought all of them from the 2 little girls who were set up on the sidewalk.
Dirty faced and barefooted, their pretty eyes pleaded with me to buy. I almost just gave them money instead because I didn't need the additional souvenirs, but then it probably would not have given them intrinsic value to their honest living.
Though I'm a sucker for all of this because clearly their mom was just off to the side and using her children to maximize economic advantage. Ah well, a few dollars means more to them than me.
On Sunday, I was shown around the Tucson highlights, such as Catalina Mountains and other views of miles of deserts and cactuses. I'll maybe post my own pics once I'm back in Edmonton.
Oh, I got pricked by a cactus as I was attempting a less serious-looking photo, dang it hurt. I should have taken a picture of the needles sticking out from my palm. But I plucked them out quickly as, dang, it hurt.
I'm hoping to change my ticket so i can check-in at Phoenix on my return flight instead. That'll give me a chance to see the dominant AZ city...7 million people there, that's 6 million more than Tucson.
Well, I'm still undecided on Tucson, I'll see what the company offers me, as the work is more complex. Thanks for the tips.
Grace to you, Vien
