I would like to think that I am a level headed enough person to not attach to mass mentality OR at least hold enough independent thought to be selective about what bandwagon/fad/mania gripping society at large I want to be a part of. :)
Canadians would know that Rrroolll Up the Rrriimm mania is sweeping across the country for the average coffee and tea drinkers. I am a infrequent coffee drinker and resort to it when I really require that caffeine jolt. Since the contest has started running, I have found myself modifying my driving route or even waking up earlier (gasp) so that I can grab a Tim Horton's coffee and a chance to win something....even a coffee or donut.
It's that whole anticipation of downing a fairly good tasting coffee and then hastily rolling up the rim (with some difficulty) and hoping not to see the PLEASE TRY AGAIN words.
Interestingly, it also helps me feel a kindredness with the rest of my countrymen. :)
I have bought 7 more coffees than I normally would and still have not won a single thing, nada.
Today, a few co-workers and I went to Tim's to get our coffees, I paid for the group of us. Myself and another person ordered medium beverages.
Back at the office, I roll up my rim, and the same dreaded words appear. My friend rolls up hers and it says....FREE COFFEE. So whatever 'fate' wrought, I paid for a coffee cup that could have been mine or hers, but she gets it and it also turns out to be a winning cup.
Now I don't want to say what crappy luck I have, but we both had a good laugh about "it". :D
Grace to you, Vien

Personally, I think that whole "roll up the rim" thing is a total rip-off if you're not normally already drinking Tim Horton's, b/c now you've shelled out an extra $8-10 over the week just for the chance of winning a donut or coffee (value = $1.50!).
However, that being said, if you did this consistently for the next 4-5 weeks, I'm sure that you will get that free donut or coffee ;)
Good "luck"! ;)
haha, yes, I'm getting ripped off. But that's ok, for some twisted reason, I feel like I'm contributing to Canadianism. (is that a word?)
