I'm a fan of good sports stories :)

Our Transportation department got selected for a $13million Modern Day Streetcar project for the City of Tucson. It’s the biggest project they have ever awarded to date.
It’s supposed to improve access to a current (dead) downtown and make it more people friendly and draw attention to that cultural core.

This means that our department has work for up to the next 5 years. It’s good news indeed considering the economy is weak. I think that’s one way the government is trying to stimulate it or keep it floating, by awarding infrastructure dollars.

We haven’t been busy yet since it’s still in the initial phases of meetings to lay out the timeline for the next few years and conceptual design. But if I’m still here in 5 years to see its completion, that will be kinda sad.

To segue back to my post title, I love love sports when it embodies the major themes of life. It can be any sport and if it has a good storyline attached, it will pique my interest. :)
And when the highlights of healthy competition include perseverance, tenacity, respect for others, overcoming obstacles and also even friendship, I may even become emotionally invested. :)

In one example, I’m talking about the depth of character and talent of Tiger Woods to win the US Open this year. Even though he’s the heavy favorite of golf championships, the way that he won it and the strength he displayed for this particular tournament made for a feel good story.

One couldn’t help but root for him and almost share equally in his relief and triumph. I would think he ranks it as one of his sweetest wins.

The other story of how sports can spawn a wave of base emotion is the 2008 Boston Celtics team. Their desire to win, to prove the nay-sayers, to accomplish was accentuated when KG said that it felt like he had shaken a schoolyard bully off his back by finally wining a championship. Or Ray Allen who said it ranked up there with the birth of his child as his happiest day.

That is one of the reasons I love and am a big fan of sports. It is a platform for winning and losing, not just in the immediate competition, but can also be for life and attitude.
