i never win anything, but the tides are a changin' :)

just a quick re-cap of my work party this past Sat. night since i blogged mentioned it in an earlier post.

The hoe-down was held at a ranch on the far far opposite end of the town from where I currently live, practically out of town. Us getting lost and uncertainty contributed to the perfect timing of being there just when the food part was about to start, so I liked that.

The menu included prime rib and chicken. I'm a big big fan of horseradish, when else can you eat something so savoury and with just enough zing for you to keep feeling excited about coming back to garnish with it.

Then it was a long long speech by the office manager about how profitable our Tucson office was last year, good news for sure.

After that it was door prize drawing time and each winning number seemed like it was just a few numbers before or after my ticket number. I never win anything. There was an assortment of prizes to be won including Stantec merchandise. Yeah, so Stantec is big enough that they have an internal corporate catalogue for managers to order logo merchandise from.

There's everything from tuques to pens to caps, etc. Our survey manager has been considered quite generous because he has given us pens, caps, tuques and even a Leatherman brand switchknife on his own before. So i wasn't too keen to win a Stantec coffee mug or anything, but of course the Asian in me wanted to win something. The grand prizes were a flat screen TV and a X-Box.

Anyways, long story short, hahaha, near the end of the draw for the 20 or so prizes they had, my ticket did get drawn. I screamed with glee (momentarily), hehe, and got up to retrieve my....black Messenger bag. You know, those larger sideways school ones.

I didn't need the bag and was already thinking of who i can *bless* with it. On the walk back to my table, a guy who won a car wash booklet asked me if i wanted to trade the bag for his carwashes. I was like "oh yeah!".

But then, i got back to my table and read the car wash booklet and it was like for some obscure car wash with locations further than 1/2hr drive from anywhere i usually go. Darn it.

With a taste of bartering in my mouth, and since the party was ready to move on to some more drinking and boring band listening to, I got ready to end my 1st ever Stantec party night. Before exiting, I made the deft move to walk past a girl who won a $50 ITunes gift card.

"hey, wanna trade your gift card for these car washes?"
"sure!"

So that made 3 happy door prize winners. Plus of course the 2 who won the TV and the console.

Grace to you, vien

Your luck is changing! Congrats on the original win and then kudos for your bartering skills!

Were the car washes free? Since I don't own an iPod I think I would've preferred the car wash tickets myself. ;)

Congrats on winning SOMETHING, though! I never win stuff. I think I was just meant to have to earn it =S

Oh..but the hoedown sounded fun. And the food sounded even better (hopefully the prime rib wasn't overcooked!).

Thanks Conster, hopefully it means at least my bad luck side is offset a little bit.

Hi Mrs. L,
The booklet was for 5 free car washes so it was also a $50 value prize. It was just too far to drive to. I don't have an IPod either, but I use ITunes to listen to music off my Macbook. :)
